FASHION FINDS FOR LESS: SUMMER

Summer is just around the corner, which means its time to look for that perfect bathing suit and yes, time to uncover those toes! Want to have it all and not spend a fortune? Check out these great wedges, cute pin-up style polka-dot suit, and even some bling!
First, is a double strap sandal by Steve Madden for $99.95. Additionally, Forever 21 has the same look for only $26.80. (Available in a variety of colors)
J Crew is well known for their classic American style and their bathing suit, “drew”, lives up to that expectation. Apparently, we will be seeing more one pieces on the beach this season.  ”Drew” is priced at $80, but who wants to spend that much on something that is only seasonal? For this same look, try Target for this bandeau by Merona.
Finally, why not add some bling to your summer? This David Yurman ring (made of diamond, black onyx and sterling silver) is perfect. Sure, it’s perfect for $590 at Saks. Don’t worry, Dillards has the look for less, $570 less that is.

FILM FEATURE- BILL CUNNINGHAM NEW YORK

Bill Cunningham New York a documentary directed by Richard Press follows the life of William J. Cunningham a fashion photographer for the New York Times. He is best know for his candid street style photos and weekly features On the Street and Evening Hours. Mr. Cunningham is a fashion world icon, if you get photographed by Bill you know you have done something right! As Anna Wintor, editor- in-chief of American Vogue, says in the film “I’ve said many times that we all get dressed for Bill.” At 82 years old Bill Cunningham still rides his Schwinn bicycle all over Manhattan snapping shots of the current style trends of the street. He is more interested in what people are wearing over “who” is wearing it, which is evident in his weekly article in the Times.

Bill started his career in fashion as a milliner under the label William J. He was then drafted to the army and after serving his country came back and worked for the Chicago Tribune, Details Magazine, Women's Wear Daily, and now the NY Times. He lives a simple life living alone above Carnegie Hall in the residences most of his adult life, he recently was evicted and now lives overlooking central Park. His tiny studio apartment is filled with filing cabinets keeping every photograph and negative he has ever taken. Despite being the man who says what trends are hot to be wearing now he has a simple wardrobe consisting of the same royal blue work jacket that is worn by Parisian street sweepers.

The film is touching and funny and definitely pulls on your heart strings. Bill has an eccentric and fun likable personality. After you watch this film I guarantee you will find yourself searching for the man with a camera in a blue coat on a bike and hoping he will take your picture.

“Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life. I don’t think you could do away with it. It would be like doing away with civilization.”- Bill Cunningham

Celebrity Style Crush- Blake Lively

You may know her best as Serena van der Woodsen in the hit show Gossip Girl, playing a well off Upper East Side socialite and having the wardrobe to match! Blake Lively's designer filled closet isn't too far off from her stylish character Serena, “Fashion is the great character on our show.” The 23 year old was born into a showbiz family and has had a fascination with fashion since her childhood in Burbank, California. Her mother was a fashion model and used to sew dresses and clothes with Blake at a young age. “We’d always go down to the garment district with my father. We would go to really cool vintage stores or boutiques and we’d get a bunch of clothes and we’d sew a lot,” Lively recalls.

Blake's personal style is nothing but swoon worthy. For the red carpet her formula for success is pairing daring body conscious, right off the runway looks with sky high stilettos. On her down time you can catch her looking flawless and casual in a large hat and oversized coat. Always looking put together and fashion forward, she is definitely one to watch to see what she wears next.

Most recently, Blake has been hand picked by Karl Lagerfeld to be the face of Chanel's new "Mademoiselle" handbag line. The photos were shot by Lagerfeld himself in Chanel's Parisian offices. If you think things couldn't get better Christian Louboutin has named a shoe after the starlet “The Blake.” As Lively says this is a “dream come true” and we couldn't agree more!

This months edition of the Free People catalog features Sasha Pivovarova along with a few of her animal friends. The shoot was photographed by Guy Aroch. Continuing with the major bohemian and 70′s trends we keep seeing for this spring, the catalog features billowing jumpsuits, crochet tops, tiered skirts, and extreme wide legged denim. The fresh faced model perfectly pulls off that hippy vibe with long beachy waves and layering on bracelets and necklaces. Neutral colors are accented by bright reds, yellows, and royal blues with tribal accessories and body paint giving the collection an unexpected twist. All items are available now in store and online.

DESIGNER HIGHLIGHT: ELIE TAHARI

Many of us are already familiar with Elie Tahari or may even own some of his designs, but few know his inspirational story.
Tahari is an Israeli born designer who grew up in an orphanage. By the time he was 19 he moved to New York City with only $300 in his pocket and a dream. After settling in he found a job at Nyborg Electric as an electrician and became fascinated by fashion while working in the garment district. In 1973 he decided to take his keen eye for fashion and put it to good use, opening his own shop on 53rd street- it was here that the “tube top” was created.
Tahari’s first two labels were Midnight Lady and Morning Lady and when the disco scene started to fade he made the smart decision to open a third shop that catered to the working woman, selling suits. This is where the brand Tahari blossomed.
Now, Elie Tahari is the CEO of a $500 million sportswear business and you can find his collection in upscale stores such as Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bloomingdale's. Prices ranges from $147-$598 for a jacket and $172-$448 for a dress.
A true success story, Tahari proves that hard work and dedication pay off.

Celebrity Style Crush- Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger is the epitome of style and chicness, which is why it was so hard deciding which photos to post for this particular style crush. She is always very well put together looking elegant and effortless. Whether she is just leaving the house or walking out on the red carpet her looks are nothing but inspirational and never fail to impress.

The 34 year old Diane Kruger, born Diane Heidkrüger, hit the Hollywood scene in 2004 with her role as Helen of Troy in Troy. Born in Germany, Kruger left home at an early age to dance with the Royal Ballet in London, but her career was cut short due to injury. She then moved to Paris to pursue modeling. The German beauty has modeled for Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein, and Armani as well as done beauty print ads for Lancôme and L’Oreal. She is fluent in German, French, and English and lives in LA with boyfriend Joshua Jackson. Diane is currently starring in the thriller Unknown and will soon begin filming Farewell, My Queen as the role of Marie Antoinette.

Believe it or not Diane does not have a stylist! She only uses them for major awards shows or promotional tours in which she will ask them for exactly what she wants. Diane’s personal style can be described as classic, chic. Diane describes her passion for clothes when saying, “I truly, genuinely like clothes. Making them is an art form, and wearing them is a form of self-expression. I find it very emotional because I can remember moments in my life—my mood, how I felt—through these clothes.” Her favorite designers are Chanel, Calvin Klein, and Jason Wu yet she still shops at Urban Outfitters and Forever21. Her current style obsession is oxfords and we couldn’t agree more!

HOW TO WEAR IT: SCARVES

ACCESSORIZE, ACCESSORIZE, ACCESSORIZE!  I can not think of a better accessory this spring than a scarf, which there are so many ways to wear, coming in all shapes and colors. Making a great accessory because they fit easily in (OR ON) a handbag if you happen to take it off.
First, you can use it as a hair wrap, tying it with one knot and letting it hang or wrapping it as a turban. Next, using it as a neck accessory, purely for show (as seen on image four).  By tying a scarf to the front of your bag will get a classic touch. Lastly, the most traditional way to wear a scarf, covering your neck, started simply to keep warm but now we use it as a fashion tool to add that extra pop.
